Members of the cabbage family, also called cole crops, include broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, collards, kale, and kohlrabi.
Plant these cool-season crops in spring and early fall in fertile soil.
Water plant in peat pot, then cut label off pot and recycle plastic.
Peel off rim and bottom half of pot, and compost or bury pot pieces.
Remove a few lower leaves.
Plant about an inch deeper than the pot. Replace soil.
Water and fertilize.
