Planting in a Raised Bed

Give plant roots great soil with a raised bed. Fill your raised bed with bagged garden soil, or amend your native soil with soil conditioner, manure, and compost. Raised beds also reduce the problem of compacted soil and make it easier to determine and control soil pH. Mulch around plants to keep soil moist.

What you'll need

  • Raised bed (ready-made kit or build your own)
  • Cages or stakes
  • Soaker hose for watering at the roots
  • Bagged garden soil or soil amendments
