Planting in the Ground

The ground gives roots unlimited room to grow if it is workable, not hard. Prep the soil before planting. Spread at least 6 inches of bagged garden soil or a mix of compost, soil conditioner, and manure over the planting area, and work the amendments into the native soil to the depth of your turning fork. Mulch around plants to control weeds and to keep soil moist.
